I work at the John Rylands Institute and Library in Manchester where I am the Special Collections Subject Lead for History (modern), Humanitarianism and the Institute of Cultural Practice. I have curatorial responsibility for Modern History Archives (Social, Economic, Industrial and Political history). My research interests are ninteenth century radical culture and politics and Public History. I am the Vice Chair of the Society for the Study of Labour History which champions 'history from below'. Local history is one of my passions, particularly the history of Huddersfield and the Colne Valley where I live.
